Post hysterectomy vault prolapse surgery options
Sacrocolpopexy
This is a surgical procedure to suspend the roof of the vagina (vault) after a hysterectomy from the front of sacrum either using a synthetic mesh or a patient’s own graft (autologous fascia lata). This surgery is usually performed laparoscopically or robotic approach and reserved for women with advanced pelvic organ prolapse or failed previous prolapse surgery. This is also a suitable option for women who wish to have hysterectomy and concurrent fascia lata use.
Sacrospinous fixation
A native tissue surgery performed vaginally to suspend the roof of the vagina (vault) onto sacrospinous ligament using sutures. This surgery usually performed in combination with other vaginal repairs.
Uterosacral vault suspension
This procedure is usually performed laparoscopically or via a robotic approach to suspend the roof of the vagina (vault) onto uterosacral ligament. This surgery can be performed in combination with hysterectomy and vaginal repairs.
