Urodynamics
Urodynamics involves a series of bladder tests to objectively assess your overall bladder function such as the ability to store and pass urine and also determining the type of urinary incontinence.
A cystoscopy will be performed concurrently to rule out bladder or urethral pathology.
When is urodynamics indicated?
The test is usually reserved for patients with conditions listed as below:
Failed conservative or medical therapy for urinary incontinence
Stress incontinence failed to improve with pelvic floor muscle training (PMFT)
Overactive bladder symptoms or urge urinary incontinence failed to respond to PMFT, bladder retraining or oral medications
Complex bladder symptoms when incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse surgery is contemplated
Suspicion of a voiding disorder
Previous unsuccessful incontinence surgery
Neurological related bladder disorders
